Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has promised to sustain the crackdown on illicit drug peddling and criminal activities in Yenagoa and other parts of the state.
Governor Diri gave the warning during his administration’s 42nd State Security Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, following the demolition of a notorious drug dealers’ hideout popularly known as Aboki Quarters.
Located in Yenizue-Gene community in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, the area known as Aboki Quarters is widely identified as a haven for drug peddlers.
Last weekend, a combined team of security agencies stormed the location and demolished the makeshift structures believed to harbour criminal elements.
At the security council meeting presided over by the governor, he noted that similar action will be taken against any criminal hideout identified anywhere in the state.

Also present at the meeting was the Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission, Gill Lever, who is in the state to assess the British Government–supported “Brighter Futures” crime prevention programme in partnership with the Bayelsa State Government.
Lever says the visit is to brief the governor on the progress of the partnership over the past three years.
The British delegation commended the state government for prioritising security and youth empowerment, noting that more than two hundred youths received vocational training and tools to become self-reliant.
