Gov Diri Meets Military Chief To Find Solution To Crude Oil Theft

Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri is restating the State’s readiness to work with the Defence Headquarters Joint Monitoring Team to curb the menace of crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Speaking when a joint monitoring team, led by Major General Jamil Jimoh, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Diri also calls on oil multinationals to always have a routine check on their facilities to prevent equipment failure.

Crude oil spill is a recurring issue in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria which is often seen as a result of sabotage or equipment failure.

A joint monitoring team, comprising of various security formations from the Defence Headquarters was at the Creek Haven for a courtesy visit to Bayelsa state Governor to solicit support of the state government to enable them effectively combat oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

Governor Diri expresses delight that the military, which is alleged to be involved in crude oil theft, is now leading the charge to change the narrative on oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

The Bayelsa Governor also urges oil companies to replace worn-out equipment to avoid frequent failure, which they allegedly blame on sabotage.

It is therefore hope that a boost in crude oil production would translate to increased allocation in the 13% derivation to oil producing states
