Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri is mediating between Dangote Sugar Refinery and host communities over lingering disputes that might result in crisis if not addressed.

At the end of a meeting with representatives of Dangote Group and host communities, Governor Fintiri said the government was wading into the matter to find a lasting solution.

Dangote Sugar Refinery hitherto known as Savannah Sugar Company Limited is located in Numan, Adamawa state on land traditionally owned by the Bachama Traditional Council, headed by the paramount ruler of Bachama Kingdom Dr. Daniel Shaga Ismaila.

The Sugar Refinery Company bothers Guyuk local government area from the southern part and Shelleng’s local government area from the Northern part.

The Communities allege neglect among other concerns by the company.

The communities are demanding incorporation into the company’s programs, creation of wealth and opportunities, as well as infrastructural breakthroughs such as access roads, health facilities, and educational development.

This deficit, according to stakeholders, is one of the reasons that are brewing conflicts, hence the timely intervention of the Governor, who believes that the meeting will lay to rest the lingering issues

Babangida Damare, representative of the Nigeria Sugar Council, noted that Nigeria trails other sugar-producing countries.

He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to enhance sugar production, expressing optimism about the meeting’s outcome.

Apart from Homun Daniel Shaga Ismaila of Bachama Kingdom on whose land the Sugar Refinery is located, traditional rulers of Lunguda Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda. the second and the Amna Shelleng Dr Abdullahi Isa Dasong were also part of the meeting.
