Rivers State Governor Sim fubara has given reasons behind his administration’s decision to cancel the employment of about two thousand staff at the state owned Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
Governor Fubara says the institution had been given approval to recruit 867 staff made up of about 500 academic staff and about 300 non-academic staff.
The governor disclosed that rather than comply with the directive, authority of the university had instead decided to employ about 2000 personnel, out of which only 123 were recruited as academic staff.

The Rivers State Government had in the last days of the immediate past administration of Governor Nyesom Wike approved the recruitment of academic and non-academic staff at the state owned Ignatius Ajuru University Rumuolumeni.
But two months into the new administration of Governor Sim Fubara, the Rivers State Government has decided to reverse the decision.
The government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Education Professor Chinedu Mmom on the 13th of July 2023, noted that the recruitment exercise was riddled with irregularities and did not meet the set standard by government.
He further stated that all those employed through the process stand unemployed.
The decision has since left a number of tongues wagging, with different insinuations being made
Governor Sim fubara who has remained quiet all the while, on Wednesday decided to break his silence when the leadership of the Rivers State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria raised the issue when they paid him a courtesy call.
Governor Fubara says his administration decided to cancel the recruitment exercise to safeguard the future of the institution, But there is now serious agitation as Governor Fubara reveals that the recruitment exercise will be revisited.
The Governor also did not forget to once again call on Rivers sons and daughters to join hands with his administration to build a united, peaceful, and prosperous Rivers State.
