Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the immediate closure of the abattoir, cattle market and the proximal Ahia Udele market on the sloppy Ogbor Hill, in the commercial city of Aba.
This directive is coming shortly after the area recorded a sad incident where a fully loaded trailer lost control and rammed into the abattoir located at Waterside River area of Ogbor Hill, killing unspecified number of persons.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, John Okiyi Kalu, instructs all those currently doing business at the affected markets and abattoir to relocate to the new Omuma Uzor Abattoir in Ukwa West Council Area of the State.
The State government also wants those currently doing businesses at the popular Ahia Udele to move to the Good Morning Market, Aba.

The Governor further directs the State Ministry of Homeland Security, to work with relevant security agencies in ensuring compliance.
The Press Release notes that the Ministry of Trade and Investment had long commenced processes to relocate the markets in line with public health advice received from the Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies before the recent accident at the Ugbor Hill abattoir.
Governor Ikpeazu assures that government will do everything possible to ensure that the traders are properly resettled to continue their businesses within a safer and healthier environment.
