Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed his administration’s commitment to encourage entrepreneurship development, to empower the people to be economically self-reliant, and contribute positively to the economic development of the State.
Governor Lawal made this known during the inauguration of the Annual Zamfara Entrepreneurship Summit in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
Represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, Trade, and Tourism, Abdulrahman Tumbido, the Governor said that entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in driving sustainable economic, social and political development, especially in helping to create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.
He told the gathering that his administration had initiated viable programmes to promote entrepreneurship development, innovation, and economic growth and development in the state.
The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment, to support young entrepreneurs in developing their potentials, even as he commended the organisers of the annual summit, adding that it will catalyse economic growth.

The chairperson of the organising committee of the event, Hauwa Barau, explained that the programme was aimed at providing participants with opportunities to have meaningful conversations, share experiences, and explore innovative business ideas, to boost their entrepreneurial skills, foster collaborations, and encourage investments in the state.
She disclosed that the organisation, in collaboration with the Zamfara Government and other relevant stakeholders, has trained 5,000 youths and women in entrepreneurial skills.
The panel of discussants highlighted the need for awareness creation, and the training of youths and women, to leverage technological skills, to create sources of income, to avoid over-reliance on parents and government, stressing that doing so can reduce poverty in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
