Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has flagged off the distribution of 59,205 bags of fertiliser.
He reiterated that agriculture remains the lifeblood of the state’s economy.
The governor also commissioned a new Fadama House, all at the Ministry of Agriculture in Gusau, the state capital.
98 trucks of fertilizer were launched for onward distribution to 59,205 smallholder farmers for wet season farming in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
Among the items distributed were 34,800 kg of rice seeds, 80,000 kg of maize seeds, 23,740 liters of herbicides, 11,735 liters of insecticides and 23,470 sachets of seed dressing chemicals.
Governor Lawal highlighted that distributing free fertilizers reflects his administration’s ongoing commitment, to transforming Zamfara State, through sustainable agriculture and rural development.
He said his administration views agriculture as a strategic driver of food security, job creation, poverty reduction, and inclusive economic growth, and that is why it is implementing an Agricultural Transformation Plan, tailored to the peculiar needs of the communities, and aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to end hunger, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, explained how the assets will be distributed to the smallholders, who are the beneficiaries of the government support.
Governor Dauda Lawal warned the 59,205 beneficiaries that, “the inputs are not meant for sale, or be traded for quick gain, but are tools for productivity and investment in your future and the future of Zamfara.”
