The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, proposing a record-breaking budget of ₦971.84 billion.

This represents an 86.4% increase, compared to the ₦521 billion budget for the 2024 fiscal year.

Governor Peter Mbah in a brief ceremony laid the document of the 2025 budget, tagged “Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity” before the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

The budget estimate allocates ₦133.1 billion for recurrent expenditure, which accounts for just 14% of the total budget, while ₦837.9 billion is earmarked for capital expenditure.

Breaking down the fiscal plans, Governor Mbah says the Education sector will again receive the largest share, accounting for 33.2 percent of the total capital expenditure.

Other key areas, including infrastructure, agriculture, health, and transport will also see huge investments, with the Governor revealing plans for the State government to acquire its aircraft to boost economic opportunities.

Taking a moment to reflect on the State’s fiscal performance, the Governor shares that, as of October 2024, Enugu had realized a total revenue of 459.8 billion Naira, achieving an impressive 88% of the budgeted target for the year.

According to Governor Mbah, the 2025 budget is designed to build on the successes of the previous year and propel Enugu State toward becoming one of the top three States in Nigeria in terms of GDP growth.

He believes strongly that the progress made in the current fiscal year proves that such an ambitious goal is not only achievable but already in motion.
