Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has declared that the state will no longer accept any form of marginalisation, insisting that it must reclaim its rightful stake in Nigeria’s oil and gas resources.
The Governor made the assertion on his return to Calabar, stating that the sacrifices made by the state in the interest of national peace, including the ceding of Bakassi, should not translate into economic injustice.
Governor Otu arrived in Calabar to a jubilant crowd of supporters, government officials, youth and women groups, all gathered to welcome him home after weeks of official duties outside the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after his arrival, the Governor declared that Cross River State would no longer be shortchanged, particularly on issues concerning oil derivation and national resource allocation.
The Governor stressed that Cross River State remains an integral part of Nigeria and deserves equal recognition and benefits within the federation.
Governor Otu also spoke on his recent recognitions outside the state, as he described the honours as a reflection of the collective effort and cooperation of the citizens, rather than personal achievements.
