Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has said the defection of over 20,000 supporters of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the State to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) is a clear indication of the dominance and strength of the party in the State.

Governor Emmanuel stated this when he received the defectors from APC in his ward at a meeting of PDP members in the State.

The meeting was to welcome and integrate the defectors from APC into the PDP.

Addressing the gathering at his Awa Ward 1 in Onna LGA, Gov. Emmanuel said the PDP remains the party to beat in the State.

He assured the new members of the party that their interests would be adequately protected.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors , a former Vice Chairman of Onna Local Government Council and Chapter Secretary of the APC, Julius Okon pointed out that he and others returned because PDP was their home.

A founding member of the PDP who had defected to the APC and was a major pillar of the opposition party in the state, Bishop Samuel Akpan also defected to the PDP at the weekend along with thousands of his supporters.

He also declared that no other political party can defeat the PDP in Akwa Ibom State.
