The Governor of Ebonyi State and Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Dave Umahi, has assured the Nigeria Police of his resolve to compensate the families of slain personnel.

Receiving in audience the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, in charge of Zone 9, AIG Ene Okon, who is on a working visit to the state, the Governor called on the police and other security agencies to be more proactive, in their efforts to curb the deteriorating security situation in the region.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 9, overseeing police formations in Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi States, was visiting on a day gunmen stepped up their violent attacks, simultaneously invading and burning offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in three Local Government Areas of the State.

In recent times, Ebonyi State has witnessed repeated attacks on security operatives, with Policemen and facilities, worst hit.

Governor Umahi was, therefore, worried about the way the security situation in Ebonyi State has nosedived.

Responding, AIG Okon expressed the hope of a new beginning in the security management of the South East region, with Tuesday’s launch of “Operation Restore Peace” by the acting Inspector General of Police Usman Baba.
