Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has confirmed the killing of an Army Major on line of duty at the worsening security areas of Orsu-Ihittekwa by suspected bandits.

The unnamed top Army officer was said to be on security patrol alongside other military personnel when they came under attack at the rural community in Orsu Local Government Area, about 48 kilometres from Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Giving an update on the current security situation in the area, Governor Uzodimma told Journalists that another Army Captain is presently in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit, ICU of the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri as a result of the recent attack.

Uzodimma maintains that his administration will stop at nothing in bringing criminality and banditry to its barest level in the State, warning political actors not to play politics with the security challenges in the State.

The Governor also appeals to well meaning Imo citizens and residents to release any information that would help security operatives flush out bandits and restore lasting peace in the State.

Governor Uzodimma used the opportunity of the Media briefing to clear the air on allegations by the CUPP Spokesperson that he inflated the voters registration numbers of his Omuma political ward ahead of the next election, describing the claims as “false and unfounded”.
