Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has reacted to the widely reported killing of ten youths by the state run local security outfit, Ebubeagu.
The Governor acknowledged the killings in Awo-mama Community, Oru East Council Area took place, but claims they were carried out by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.
A viral video circulating on social media showed indigenes of the community conveying the bodies of the murdered youths to the market square in wheelbarrows.
The pictures have not been independently verified by ait.live.
The locals are accusing the Imo State local security outfit, Ebubeagu of wrongfully labelling the deceased youths as bandits and killing them as they were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in the area.
But, Governor Uzodimma while briefing Newsmen at the Government House, Owerri after the weekly Security Council meeting, says contrary to stories making the rounds, the operation was carried out by men of the DSS who stormed a bandit hideout in the community, following what he called, intelligence reports.
He said the government will not succumb to any campaign of calumny or blackmail in the course of fighting insecurity in the State.
