Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike says the ongoing construction work at the state of the art Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases, Diagnostic and Treatment Centre will go a long way in addressing the gaps in radiotherapy and cancer treatment.
Speaking after he inspected the project on Tuesday, Governor Wike says a key goal of his administration is to address the health needs of the people through the provision of adequate and well-equpped health facilities across the state.
The #25.9b centre when completed will reduce suffering, reduce morbidity and reduce the need of seeking treatment abroad and save the country millions if not billions of dollars spent by Nigerians who go for treatment abroad.
Governor Wike says the centre, which arguably would be the first of its kind in the country would also transform rivers state into the new medical tourism destination.

He was also at the Nkpogu area of Port Harcourt to inspect the layout work being carried at 16 hectares of land recently reclaimed by his administration.
The land which sits next to the corporate headquarters of the Nigerian liquefied natural gas limited was once a mangrove and a hideout for criminals.
The governor says his administration has also set aside some of the lands to build a security post.
