Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says the best way to bridge the gender gap is by women in the country mobilizing their votes for all viable female candidates in the 2023 general election.
Governor Wike who gave the advice in Akure, the Ondo state capital, through Rivers state head of service, Rufus Godwins, at a forum of wives of political appointees, also highlighted the need to respect women’s rights to Political participation.

He said the struggle to achieve gender balance and equitable representation in politics in Nigeria is a long way from being achieved.
Other speakers at the event including the Wife of Ondo state Governor, Betty Akeredolu called on political parties to promote ideologies that will encourage affirmative action.
According to a Women in Politics Forum report, only 18.9% of women make up the party list of contestants for the 2023 general elections, with only the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) fielding a female presidential candidate.
