Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned attacks on Ayilamo and Mbachohon communities in Logo and Gwer-West local government areas of the state by suspected armed herders.
AIT.live gathered that armed men have been on the rampage in Benue State, killing innocent citizens in invaded communities on Tuesday night and shooting sporadically, leading to the death of a number of villagers.
Several houses were also burnt down during the attacks, leading to the displacement of residents.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Alia in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, expressed deep concern at the nefarious activities of the suspected herders.
He lamented how the terrorists are killing innocent citizens in cold blood for reasons which, according to him, are difficult to grasp and pin down.
The Governor stated that his administration cannot watch people killed daily on their farmlands and their villages for a cause unknown to them.
While sympathising with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the attacks, Governor Alia called on security agencies in the state to quickly apprehend those suspected to be behind such incidents and bring them before the law.
He also called on traditional rulers and youths in the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
