Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri says the once simmering relationship between his state and neighbouring Rivers State has been very peaceful since Siminalayi Fubara became a governor.

Diri also said that the sister states now have understanding even in areas where they previously had disagreements.

Speaking when he paid Governor Fubara a Christmas visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Diri said the two states have reached an understanding over the disputed Soku oil wells and the destruction of some buildings belonging to Bayelsa State Government in Port Harcourt.

The governor, in the spirit of the yuletide, visited Governor Fubara, who, last year, paid him a Christmas visit at his country home, saying the two states have a lot to gain working together.

Governor Fubara on his part said he wants a better and stronger relationship between Rivers and Bayelsa State.

He also called for the strengthening of the BRACED Commission, which is a body tasked with integrating the six states that make up the South-South geo-political zone to work collectively to bring development and improve the lives of the people of the region.

Governor Fubara further said that the two states will continue to work for peace, unity and progress of the country.
