The Rivers State Government has marked a significant milestone in its drive to bridge the housing deficit with the commissioning of 1,000 housing units, the first phase of the 20,000-unit affordable housing programme.
The project underscores the Fubara administration’s commitment to providing decent, accessible, and affordable homes for residents, while stimulating economic growth and creating employment opportunities across the state.
Rivers state, like most urban areas, is faced with Housing challenges.
Affordable housing has also remained elusive, especially for low- and medium-income earners who cannot afford to own a house of their own.
As a first step to addressing the challenge, the Fubara administration signed an MoU in December 2023 with a private developer for the construction of 20,000 units of affordable housing which will stand as the largest affordable housing initiative ever undertaken under a public-private partnership.
The project, which is very dear to the heart of the Rivers State Governor, is one effort aimed at assisting low- and middle-income earners in actualizing their dream of becoming homeowners.
The Governor on Monday commissioned 1,000 units to mark the first phase of the project located in the new Greater Port Harcourt City, situated on 1,000 hectares of Land.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara states that his administration will do everything possible to ensure its completion.
He also challenged other developers to speed up work on their projects.
The Rivers State Governor used the occasion to thank the people of the state for their continued support, promising not to disappoint or betray their trust.
