The Plateau State Government has commended officers and men of the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, for their resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to restoring peace in troubled parts of Plateau State.
At a luncheon held in their honour in Jos, Governor Caleb Muftwang, through his representative, Brigadier General Gakji Shipi (rtd), said the government and people of Plateau State remain deeply grateful for the sacrifices of the troops in maintaining peace and stability across the state.
Operation Safe Haven, established in 2010, is a joint security outfit made up of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and other security agencies, with the mandate to curb violence, protect lives, and restore order in Plateau State and neighbouring areas. In recent times, the task force has remained active in the fight against banditry and insurgency, and earlier in March 2026, troops launched operations in Kanam Local Government Area, where they inflicted heavy casualties on bandits and destroyed their logistics bases and camps.
In August 2025, the Chief of Defence Staff rebranded Operation Safe Haven to Operation Enduring Peace, with renewed emphasis on sustainable peace and long-term stability in the region.

Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, represented by Major General Isah Abdullahi, assured troops that the Nigerian Army remains committed to supporting both personnel and their families, stressing that their welfare remains a top priority. The General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, also praised the troops for their steadfastness and dedication to duty, while congratulating Muslim personnel on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
A touching moment at the luncheon was the observance of a one-minute silence in honour of personnel who recently lost their lives in Kanam Local Government Area during clashes with bandits. The event also featured meals served to troops by senior officers, including the GOC and the representative of the Chief of Army Staff, as well as cultural performances by the Asharawa dance group.
