As part of efforts to enhance mechanised farming and boost food production, the Benue State Government commenced the distribution of 50 units of tractors to farmers at 40 percent subsidy of N5. 6 million each.
State Governor Samuel Ortom who flagged off the distribution at the Government House Makurdi said the State was compelled to launch the incentive for its farmers at this very trying time in the history of the world to at least guarantee food security.
The State Government says it will bear 60 percent of the total cost of N13.9 million which amounts to N8.3 million with the benefiting farmers paying just 40 percent.
Governor Ortom seized the opportunity to sound a note of warning to herders who are plotting to contravene the State’s Open Grazing Prohibition Law stressing that they will be confronted head on.
The chief executive equally spoke against repraisal attacks noting that those found capable will be sanctioned.
He said he will be meeting with his Nasarawa State counterpart on Saturday for more peace talks.
