In a decisive move to strengthen security in Cross River State, Governor Bassey Edet Otu has deployed 30 operational vehicles to the state’s joint security task force, now rebranded as Operation Okwok. The new name, derived from the Efik word for “bee,” symbolizes vigilance, swift action, and a firm stance against crime.

This deployment marks the first phase of a broader plan to equip security agencies with 100 operational vehicles. The joint task force, which includes personnel from the Army, Police, Air Force, Navy, DSS, Immigration, and Correctional Service, will also receive additional support in logistics and surveillance technology.

Governor Bassey Otu speaking during the handover ceremony of the vehicles, also outlined future security initiatives, including intensified marine patrols, acquisition of gunboats and drones, and the establishment of a homeland security unit to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, praised the governor’s commitment to security, describing the vehicles deployment as a “game-changer” in law enforcement.

With this initiative, Governor Otu is strengthening the fight against crime, positioning Cross River State as a model for proactive security governance.
