Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, wants religious leaders to prevail on promoters of the sit-at-home order in the South East region to stop the civil action to save the economy of the zone from imminent collapse.

Governor Umahi, made the call in Abakaliki, Tuesday at the inauguration of the new Executive Committee of the South East Zone of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.

The plea is coming on the second day of civil action called by the outlawed separatist agitation group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB , which operates mainly in the South East part of Nigeria.

The self determination group had earlier said Tuesday’s sit-at-home action is honour of 28 of their members allegedly killed by the Nigeria Army on September 14, 2017, during an invasion of the country home of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Nigerian Army has since denied the claims.

Ait.live gathered that Tuesday’s sit-at-home action grounded economic activities in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

For the second day in a row, residents of the city shunned their businesses in compliance with the IPOB order, as the roads and streets wore a scanty look of human and vehicular movements.

Governor Umahi lamenting what he calls the dangerous effect of the situation on the economy and urged the Christian leaders to use their vantage position in the society to restore sanity not only in Ebonyi State but in the entire southeast region.
