The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has been unsparing to the Infectious Diseases Act, whose public hearing commenced on Wednesday.

The Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi, expressed concerns in the provisions of the bill.

Fayemi says that as far as the Governors’ Forum is concerned,  the bill is undemocratic, as it is in conflict with some aspects of the constitution and negates the provision of Human Rights.

Although he agreed that the House may have presented the bill in the interest of the people, due to the exigencies of the times, he however expressed worries on the  piece of legislation, which he says can not be held up to standard legislative analysis.

Fayemi stressed that it is evident that too much powers have been given to the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and taken away from the States and Local Goverments.
