The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has advised labour unions to exercise caution on the call for a national strike action saying the move will worsen the deteriorating economic situation of the country as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is contained in the communique issued at the end of the 18th Teleconference meeting of the State Governors.
The communique signed by its Deputy Chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State suggested the provision of cushioning measures to ameliorate the effects of subsidy removal.
The Governors noted that the removal of fuel subsidy has become inevitable but must be accompanied by measures to cushion the effect on the people.
The Forum has expressed concerns over statutory deductions by the Federal Government from the allocations of the 774 Local Government councils to finance the construction and equipping of primary healthcare centres in the country.
