Nigeria’s fiscal development and the desire to ease the burden on basic consumption took centre stage at the first meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in 2026 that held in Abuja on Wednesday night.
The 36 state Governors pledged to work closely with the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele to rejig Nigeria’s fiscal management.
Recently, Nigeria’s fiscal system has gone through tough times. The running of the 2025 and 2026 capital element of the national budgets simultaneously obviously call for concerns.
This may have formed the underlying factor for state Governors resolve to restore confidence in outstanding fiscal matters.
The Education sector also attracted the attention of the Governors with the proposed 12-year continuous basic education framework, a key issue for consideration.
The Governors also gave audience to the newly sworn-in executives of the Association of Local Governments Of Nigeria, ALGON who were accompanied by their Board of Trustees.
Acting Chairman of ALGON, Iliyasu Zakari is optimistic the protracted squabble within the administrators of the third tier of government will soon be a thing of the past.
