Ahead of June Governorship Election in Ekiti State and with politicians slugging it out for party tickets to contest the election, the electorate have continued to set the agenda for who takes over from the incumbent, Kayode Fayemi.
From the hinterlands of Afao and Oye Ekiti, to the border towns of Ikere and Erin Alaaye, campaign posters of the various aspirants for the Ekiti State top job adorn the entire landscape.
This is even as the various political parties are yet to conduct primaries for the election scheduled for the 18th of June 2022.
Rallies have become common sights as politicians woo supporters with a view to nick their parties’ tickets.
In the build up, the concern for many voters in Ekiti state have centred around the need for good governance even as campaigns remain partly dominated by agitation for power shift by politicians from the southern senatorial district.
For analysts, the contest is mainly a two horse race betwen the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Both parties are however yet to decide on the mode of primary to be adopted to choose their candidates.
In APC, party stalwarts and members have called on the party at the national level on whose shoulders the decision lies to thread with caution.
Within the PDP, the contest has been a battle of wits between a former Governor of the State, Ayodele Fayose and four Governorship aspirants led by the Senator representing Ekiti South, Abiodun Olujimi over the selection of delegates for the party’s primary.
For the electorate, Incumbent, Kayode Fayemi’s successor has no other job than prioritizing the welfare of the people and develop the state.
Thirty-six candidates contested the poll in the last election in 2018.
It is still early days to tell if this figure will not be surpassed this time around especially with the primaries and the main election yet to be concluded.
What is however certain is that whoever wants to step into the Ekiti Government House on the 18th of October, when Fayemi would have concluded his second and final four-year term in office still clearly has a number of hurdles to cross.
