Govt releases names, pictures of all Owerri jailbreakers, as 48 return voluntarily

The Nigeria Correctional Service has released the names and pictures of inmates, who escaped from custody during the attack on the Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State.

Though the federal government had earlier in the week promised to grant amnesty to those inmates who voluntarily return, so far only forty-eight of them have returned.

On Monday 5th April 2021, at about 02:15 am unknown gunmen, stormed the facility and gained entrance into the yard by using explosives, to blast the administrative block and forcefully released one thousand eight hundred and forty-four inmates from the custody.
