At a time Nigeria is contending with economic and social challenges, the Management of Gregory University, Uturu in Abia State, has charged graduating students to rise to the demands of national development by applying the knowledge, skills and competencies acquired during their academic training.
The call was made at the 10th Convocation Ceremony of the privately owned institution – a milestone event marking ten years since the University produced its first set of graduates.
The academic procession into the University Auditorium, led by members of the Governing Council and principal officers, set the tone for the 10th Convocation Ceremony of Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, Nigeria.
Established in 2012, the institution is celebrating a decade of steady growth and contribution to Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape, having consistently produced graduates across multiple academic disciplines.
Founder and Proprietor of the University, Professor Gregory Ibe, alongside the Chancellor, Okechukwu Ibe, want the graduands to deploy the intellectual capacity, discipline and values instilled in them, to confront real-life challenges and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Cele Njoku, emphasised the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship and resilience, expressing confidence that graduates of Gregory University will continue to excel in their chosen careers and remain worthy ambassadors of the institution within and beyond Nigeria.
One after the other, graduating students from the various Colleges of the University were presented and conferred with Bachelor’s degrees, receiving cheers and applause from parents, guardians and well-wishers.
Onyechere Yadirichukwu and Ogan Tamunodiepiriye emerged as the best graduating students for the 2025 academic session.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of honorary degrees on distinguished Nigerians, including former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Chairman of the Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Linus Mba; and Okenze Sylvester, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to societal growth and human development.
In all, four hundred and ten students were awarded degrees at the 2025 Convocation Ceremony of Gregory University, Uturu, a development academics say underscores the institution’s growing footprint in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
