Gunmen attack Police area command, kill Officer in Kogi

Gunmen in the early hours on Friday attacked the Police Area Command Headquarters in Okehi, Adavi Local Government area of Kogi State, killing one police officer in the process.

The attackers who came on motorcycles also set a part of the command headquarters ablaze with the aid of dynamite and also vandalized some property.

A police personnel, simply identified as Inspector Idris, a native of Ugwolawo, Ofu Local Government area of the state died in the process.

The state Police command spokesman, SP William Aya while confirming the attack said that one police Inspector died during the exchange of fire with the armed hoodlums

He said the Area Commander and a detachment of Military in the area reinforced to the scene of incident which forced the attackers to flee due to superior fire power.

The police command promised to work in synergy with other security agencies as well as other stakeholders to make the state a safe and secure place for all and sundry.

Reacting to the situation, Commissioner for information, Kinsley Fanwo commended the gallantry of the security operatives who resisted the attack with utmost bravery and professionalism and charged residents to go about their duties, adding that the police have taken charge
