The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of five worshippers by unknown gunmen in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident to journalists in Akure on Wednesday.
Jimoh said Upon receiving the report, operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations.
He disclosed that following sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued, while one suspect has been apprehended.
According to him, operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of all perpetrators involved.
Jimoh urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and actionable information to support ongoing operations.
The Five worshippers were abducted after suspected gunmen invaded a Celestial Church in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Community sources say the attack occurred during a church service when the assailants stormed the worship centre and forcefully took away five persons.
It was later gathered that one of the victims escaped from the kidnappers shortly after the incident, while the whereabouts of the remaining four persons are still unknown.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night.
