Delta State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of the chairman of Sapele local government area, Bright Agbeke, by gunmen, on Friday night.
Reacting to the incident, the state’s commissioner of police, Yemi Oyeniyi, says the command is on top of the situation to ensure the safe rescue of the council boss.


In a coordinated assessment of the location where Bright Agbeke was kidnapped, the police chief, has ordered an intelligence exploitation and forensic follow-up, while stressing that public support is vital to the success of the operation.
The command in a statement issued has also assured family members of the kidnapped council boss of his safe rescue.
It would be recalled that the Sapele council boss, was reportedly whisked away by gunmen on Friday night at a hotel along Owumi Road in Sapele amid heavy gun fire.
The incident comes barely 24 hours after suspected gunmen reportedly issued threats to unleash violence in the area.
