Ebonyi State Police Command in South-East Nigeria has suffered another attack on its facility by gunmen in the early hours of Sunday, leaving three operatives dead.

ait.live gathered that the Uwana Divisional Police Station in Afikpo North Local Government Area came under heavy gun attack at about 2:00am in which two Police Inspectors and a constable, were reportedly killed.

One of the masked gunmen was said to have been shot dead by the Police who tried to repel the attackers.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah explained that the gunmen, suspected to be members of proscribed IPOB and ESN numbering about 35 invaded the station at 3am, shooting sporadically at the policemen on duty, who immediately repelled the attackers.

Odah’s statement confirmed that one of the suspected gunmen was killed with two AK47 rifles and other incriminating items recovered, but is silent on the number of casualties suffered on the side of the Police.

This Sunday’s violent attack comes barely a week after a group of armed men in a similar fashion, attacked the Divisional Police Station in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State, killing at least one policeman and torching parts of the building.

In recent times, insecurity has heightened in Ebonyi State with security personnel, especially policemen and facilities targeted by gunmen, resulting in several killings and arson.
