It can only be described as a night of horror for residents of Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja in the wee hours of the night when gunmen besieged the locality and shot sporadically for hours leaving one vigilante operative dead and abducting unknown number of security operatives.

According to witnesses who prefer to remain anonymous, the gunmen invaded the community at about 11pm and began shooting sporadically for about two hours targeting the Department of State Services, DSS outpost near the General Hospital in the area.

Sources say there was no security presence as at the time of the attack and the only vigilante operative that stood up to the invaders was gunned down instantly.

Although as at the time of filing this report, ait.live was yet to independently confirm the incident, calls put across to the DSS spokesperson l, Peter Afunanya were not picked or returned. The police are also yet to respond to enquiries about the incident.

Eyewitnesses say residents of the Abaji Area Council are still too scared to go about their normal businesses as a result of palpable fear. Abàji community has over time been reported to be a red spot for abductions, armed robbery and a host of other criminal activities with little or no security presence , leaving the locals to their fate at the mercy of criminals.

Abàji is located along the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway which has been reportedly notorious for series of highway robbery, killing and abduction of travellers among other heinous crimes.
