No fewer than 50 persons have been killed by suspected bandits in 4 communities in Zurmi and Kaura Namoda Local Governments Areas of Zamfara State.

A source said several others who sustained injuries were rushed to Kaura Namoda General Hospital and other facilities for medical attention.

One of the victims, Rabiu, who was attacked at the Kadawa community, said the other affected communities are Kota, Gandasamu and Lemu in Zurmi and Kaura Namoda Local Councils.

He said the bandits stormed the communities in hundreds of motorcycles, three of them on one motorcycle, with sophisticated weapons, and began shooting sporadically and killing over fifty persons.

Some angry members of the community decided to carry the dead bodies to Zurmi Emirate Council to register their grievances when some elders pleaded with them to stop.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara State, Superintendent of Police, Mohammed Shehu, however said 14 persons were killed by the assailants.

He said the Police have deployed a combined team of operatives to ensure safety, security and peace in the troubled areas.
