A serving police sergeant with Aktapa Divisional Headquarters in Calabar was gunned down early Saturday morning, by some suspected criminals in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Eyewitness account said the police officer was killed around Egerton Street in Calabar South by the assailants.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo confirmed the killing saying the investigation has commenced unraveling those behind the act.
Ugbo also confirmed that the service rifle of the killed police sergeant was also taken away by the suspected Criminals, assuring that the tactical team of the Police Commissioner has commenced tracking the criminals.

The police Spokesperson warned criminals to either have a change of mind or relocate as there is a new Crime Fighter Police Commissioner who has just resumed duty.
The State New Police Police Commissioner, Sule Balarabe who assumed duty on Friday had warned Criminals to relocate as there is ” a new Sheriff” in town to wipe them out.
Sule also Sued for peace among the citizens, assuring that community policing will be the hallmark of his policing strategy in Cross River State.
