It has been a weekend of violence as gunmen launched attacks in different parts of Enugu State, South-East Nigeria including the brutal killing of police personnel.

Three police officers on stop-and-search duty at the University town, Agbani Roundabout in Nkanu West Local Government Area were on Saturday reportedly murdered by rampaging gunmen.

State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement on Sunday confirmed that the three police officers were killed by armed hoodlums suspected to be IPOB-ESN members, numbering about 15 who operated in a Lexus Jeep and Toyota Tundra vehicles.

On Friday, a former Commissioner in Enugu State who had served as Chairman of Oji River LGA and his elder brother were killed while returning home after attending a burial in Achi.

The Police say investigations are ongoing.
