Suspected gunmen have struck again at a Police checkpoint in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria in which one officer was killed, and their operational vehicle set ablaze.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday, at a regular Police checkpoint in the Ishieke junction, a community hosting a campus of the Ebonyi State University.
Eyewitness accounts told ait.live that the heavily armed and masked gunmen attacked the check point, shooting sporadically and dislodging the operatives, resulting in the death of the personnel while others were severely injured.
The latest attack on the Police checkpoint at Ishieke is coming barely three weeks after a similar one on another checkpoint at the Hilltop area of the Abakaliki metropolis in which four policemen and two female civilians were killed.
The Ebonyi State Police Command Public Relation Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu while confirming the incident in a WhatsApp message said, “Contrary to circulating report, Nobody was kidnapped… 1 officer was fatally wounded and a patrol vehicle set ablaze”
