The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State, North-Central Nigeria degenerated futher as armed personnel fired shots and deployed teargas to disperse factions that converged at the party’s State Secretariat to disrupt a planned stakeholders meeting creating wide spread panic.
The State Government had in a leaked letter to the Police Commissioner banned all political gathering which led to party supporters storming the Secretariat which had been sealed by police operatives to ensure enforcement.
Gunshots, deployment of tear gas and confusion was quite the order of the day on the street leading to the APC Secretariat in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Speculation of a power tussle between Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume and the State Governor, Hyacinth Alia is gradually tearing the ruling party apart.
