The Rivers State Government has rewarded the twenty-five players and officials of the state-owned female handball team, the Rivers Queens, with the sum of fifty million naira.
The award announced by Governor Fubara at the Government House Port Harcourt follows the teams victory at a national competition held in Benin the Edo State capital.

The team’s victory marks the first time Rivers State will win a handball competition at any level
Their effort was made possible by the enormous support they enjoyed from the state government as well as the renewed drive of the Fubara administration to promote the development of other sports outside football.

Governor Sim Fubara says a major thrust of his agenda for sports is to encourage the early development of talents across the state.
And in a show of appreciation, Governor Fubara decided to reward the 25 players and officials of the victorious Rivers Queens handball team for their efforts
