A cross section of Nigerians in Kogi state capital, want the federal Government to regulate the prices of commodities in markets across the country with a view to minimising the current socio-economic hardships among the citizens.
Those Nigerians who spoke to ait.live on Wednesday in Lokoja, the state capital noted that the unabating harsh economic reality in the country, particularly in Kogi state requires presidential interventions.
A Market survey carried out in Lokoja revealed that the prices of food items and other consumables have hit the rooftop with double percentage increase even as cost of transportation and other social services also skyrocketed due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
Statistics also show that the 50kg of Rice that was sold at thirty five thousand Naira (N35,000) about eight months ago now goes for sixty five thousand Naira (N65,000) while a bag of maize that was twenty five thousand Naira (N25,000) eight months ago now sells for fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) in markets across LOKOJA.

A meat seller Danlami Mere and other traders said many businesses are folding up because of the high cost of living and therefore wants the Federal Government to intervene in the astronomical increases in the cost of food items.
The Member, representing Dekina Bassa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Gowon Haruna, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the current administration as efforts are ongoing to address the economic challenges of the Country.
These Nigerians in Kogi faulted the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, insisting that the federal Government was deliberately inflicting pains on the masses. They however Appealed to president Tinubu for urgent interventions to save lives and boost the nation’s economy.
