Worried by the continued rising cost of goods and services, the Niger state government has established the state’s Price Control and Monitoring Board.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Usman, stated that the inauguration of the eight-member Board marks a significant step in the State’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing and consumer protection.

He revealed that the Board is expected to control and stabilize prices of essential commodities across the State, eradicate or reduce to the barest minimum hoarding of essential commodities, and quickly respond to handling issues that may arise as a result of enforcement and penalty for contravention of guidelines among others.

Other functions of the Board include being responsible for the distribution, monitoring, and evaluation of essential commodities, keeping prices under continuous surveillance, interpreting price movement, and relating them to other developments in the State’s economy.
