Nigerian Legendary highlife trumpeter Dr Victor Olaiya has passed on at age 89.
A statement issued by the Managing Director Evergreen Music Bimbo Esho said the doyen of highlife music died Wednesday at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi Araba.
The late Olaiya was born on December 31 1930 and hailed from Ijesha Ishu, Ekiti State.
In 1954, the late Olaiya formed his music band known as the Cool Cats; playing highlife music but later renamed the band to the All Stars Band in 1963; bridging between Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeat.
In July 2013, the late music icon released a music video remix of Baby Jowo with 2 Face Idibia which rocked the airwaves.
He has several songs to his credit such as Omo Pupa, Feso Jaiye, Iye Jemila, So fun mi among other hit songs.
