The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and students of Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo have staged a peaceful protest calling on the Kwara State Government to reopen the school for learning.

The Christian-mission aided school was shutdown indefinitely by the State government in February over the wearing of hijab to school.

The placard carrying protesters led by CAN Chairman in the community, Reverend Samuel Ajayi took to the streets demanding the school should be reopened.

Addressing Journalists, the CAN leader said the state government action has taken a toll on the students.

According to him, a good number of students of the school are losing interest in formal education with increasing rate of teenage pregnancy and other juvenile delinquencies amongst the students.

The Christian community however alleged that the decision of the State government to shutdown the school is bias, unfair and a betrayal to Christians.

A few of the affected students of the school and their parents appealed to the State government to reopen the school and refain from imposing the Islamic head gear hijab on them.

A panel of inquiry by the State government on the hijab crisis in the school recently submitted its report with far reaching recommendations that are yet to be felt.
