Almost a month after the mining pit that collapsed in Galadima Kogo in Shiroro Local Government Area, trapping about 14 persons who are still under the rubles, the Federation of Nigeria Mining Host Communities, Niger State Chapter has called for discreet investigation and prosecution of owners of collapsed mining sites where workers were recently trapped while in active service in the state.
The Federation in a communiqué issued to Newsmen in Minna and signed by its Chairman, Habibu Wushishi and the Secretary, Mohammed Mohammed after its meeting, said that any of the Companies found culpable of using members of the host communities for cheap labour without safety measures should be prosecuted.

It noted with concern the collapse of mining pits in Galkogo, Shiroro local government area where over 30 people were trapped early this month and the second incident where three persons were killed in Adunu village of Paikoro local government area, both in Niger state.
The Federation therefore sought for the prosecution of the companies involved, and compensation paid to the victims to serve as a deterrent to other Companies in the state and the Nation as a whole.
The Federation of Nigeria Mining Host Communities reiterates its commitment to add voice to its people by ensuring justice and equity is done to its communities and shall continue to peacefully protect its members by pointing out every wrong in the mining sector to correct such for the betterment of Nigerians.
The Federation, however, used the opportunity to appreciate Governor Umar Bago, who showed great love for his people and exhibited a great sense of commitment and leadership throughout the difficult period.
According to them, he cut short his visit to Abuja and returned to Minna and ensured that equipment and personnel needed at the scene were adequately provided.
It also recognizes the special attention given by the Minister of Mines and Steel Development Dele Alake, officials of the ministry and the special assistant on Community Engagement, Emily Ofodile for their swift actions and physical visit to the state to commiserate with victims.
