Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has described a former House Speaker, Agunwa Anaekwe, who died in July this year, as a unifying force in Nigerian politics, whose legacy of unity and love will continue to inspire future generation of leaders.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu noted that the late legislator who rose to prominence at 36, serving as House Speaker between 1992 and 1993 before the termination of the Third Republic by the military, was one of the youngest members of the green chamber

Kalu, who led members of the South East Caucus of the House to pay a condolence visit to the deceased widow, Mrs. Chinwe Anaekwe, in his Abuja home on Wednesday, said the former House Speaker will be remembered for his bravery, humility, and commitment to public service

The late House Speaker was eulogised by the deputy speaker, and some members of the National Assembly, including Senator Osita Izunaso, and Senator Victor Umeh as an extraordinary Nigerian who worked for the country’s unity, and left an enduring legacy that Ndi Igbos should emulate and be proud of at all times.

The deputy speaker who will be serving as co-chairman of the burial committee alongside Senator Osita Izunaso; a former chief press secretary to the late legislator, both promised to unite with all other indigbo sons and daughters to give the former House Speaker a befitting burial.
