Members of the House of Representatives have moved to override the veto by President Muhammadu Buhari on the recently amended 2022 Electoral Act.

The House and the Senate in April hurriedly amended Section 84(8) of the Act that was passed early this year to allow statutory delegates vote during congresses, conventions and primaries of political parties.

President Buhari however did not sign the amendment into law before the last party primaries. Over 170 members of the House of Representatives have reportedly failed to secure the ticket of their parties to seek re-election

Meanwhile, the House has in a motion asked the Independent National Electoral Commissio, INEC to extend the deadline for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration by 60 days. The Commission had earlier set the deadline for June 30.
