Governors of Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo States have jointly called for true federalism, creation of state police, and resource control among other demands.
They made these demands at the ongoing South-South Centre-A Public Hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State as Edo State disagreed with the creation of additional state in the zone.
Various stakeholders gathered at the DSP Alamieyeseigha memorial Banquet hall, venue of the public hearing for South-South Centre A, comprising Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states.
Led by its Chairman Julius Ihonbvere, the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review emphasized that the public hearing would capture all inputs, allowing the voice of every Nigerian to be heard.
The host Governor, Douye Diri presented Bayelsa State’s position, emphasizing the need for state police, resource control, and the creation of additional 25 local government areas.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, speaking through Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, called for judicial reforms and an upward review of the derivation formula alongside other demands.
While Edo State Government aligned with demands made by Bayelsa and Delta on several issues, it differed on the creation of additional states from Edo.
