Nigeria’s House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello over the growing security situation and fast deterioration of infrastructure and facilities in the city.

The resolution was reached following Motion of Urgent Public Importance moved by House Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu on the need to arrest the fast deterioration of the Territory

The lawmaker who lamented the influx of criminals into the city expressed concern over the lack of security infrastructure needed to tackle the city’s challenges saying most of the available infrastructure lacks proper maintenance by the FCT Administration.

Citing the disappearance of Vanguard Newspapers reporter, Tordue Salem and the abduction of academic staff at the University of Abuja, Toby Okechukwu urged the House to use the powers conferred on it by the constitution to legislate and oversight the FCT Administration in Section 299(a) to address issues raised in the motion.

The Minister is expected to appear before Committee of the Whole in the House of Representatives in the coming weeks to brief it on the issues outlined in the motion.
