The Federal Government says it has concluded arrangements to construct affordable houses for the people of Niger state as the state government has promised to provide the required land.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, who disclosed this in Minna, the Niger State capital, said the desire to partner with the state government is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, in the area of creating affordable housing schemes for Nigerians.
During a call on Governor Umar Bago, Ojo said the population explosion being witnessed in Niger State, due to its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, has created a huge housing deficit
He said the houses will be built in conformity with the culture and tradition of the people, adding that that the housing authority will use local contractors in the state to boost the local economy.

Ojo also said the Federal Housing Authority also intends to create a Diaspora City with adequate security wherever the projects are sited.
He further explained that the housing project would be in three layers, for the low, middle and upper classes, pointing out that the state government will be expected to provide data on beneficiaries, and give guarantees of payment of the houses by beneficiaries in instalments of between five and ten years.
Governor Umar Bago told his host the state government will speedily provide the needed land in any part of the state at no cost, especially as his administration is beginning the process of relocating communities affected by the activities of hydro dams in the state alongside the construction of houses in farm estates, and the provision of housing for workers in the Special Agro-Processing Free Zone.
