Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, wants the Nigerian government to speed up the Ogoni clean-up exercise and the entire Niger delta in the interest of the people who have suffered environmental pollution for decades
Falana, who said this during the 30th memorial lecture of late Ken Sarowiwa and eight others, in Port Harcourt, the rivers State capital, also reminded the Nigerian authorities to give priority to the provision of social amenities and job creation for the people of ogoni and the entire Niger Delta Region due to the enormous resources derived from the region.
The memorial lecture in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, with the theme, “Ken Sarowiwa, The man, His Legacies, Struggles and challenges” is part of activities to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of the murder of Ken sarowiwa and eight others by the military junta led then by the late general Sani Abacha for fighting for the rights of their people and the emancipation of the Niger delta region.
